Start listening to sex workers

"When prostitution is a crime, the message conveyed is that women who are sexual are bad" - Margo St. James

Two pieces today look at the shadow worlds of British policy, where the press rarely bothers to find out what's going on.

The first, prostitution, details new evidence being brought forward from sex workers themselves about how they can operate most safely. We take a peek into the raw data presented to parliament during a symposium earlier this month, comparing different countries' approaches and what followed. It's the reality of life as a sex worker, from sex workers.

Next up, we look at today's report from Feltham young offenders' prison, where hunger, solitary confinement and seemingly unstoppable violence are the order of the day. It makes for grim reading. The worst part is, this is considered an improving institution.
