PMQs special George Osborne had a big day out today, standing in for David Cameron at prime minister's questions. This was a big test for the chancellor who hopes one day to be doing this on a weekly basis. He was largely successful. However there was one particularly ill-timed joke at Hilary Benn's expense during what was otherwise a very serious exchange between the two men on the subject of extremism. This one moment spoke volumes. Elsewhere we take a look at a worrying rise in intimidation of women seeking abortions and ask why the Home Office seem so reluctant to deal with it. We also have several reports on last night's London mayoral hustings. The race to be Labour's next London mayor has become an increasingly bitterly fought one and there were a series of tense exchanges between the leading candidates. Heathrow in particular proved a controversial topic among the candidates, with David Lammy lashing out at his rival Sadiq Khan. Overall though it was an enlightening and policy-filled debate. A fact which stands it in stark contrast to the largely superficial debate taking place for the Labour leadership right now. |
