New immigration stats are usually treated like some kind of natural disaster, with politicians coming out to pass the blame. David Cameron's foolhardy promise to get the numbers down to the "tens of thousands" only made this worse.

But our lead item today suggests that the figures are actually proof of the success of multicultural Britain and warns that once hard Brexit hammers manufacturing and financial services, we'll be looking back on them as a memory of the good times.
